This is just clickbait, not my Twingo. Or is it... ? Hopefully not. But possibly.
My Twingo didn’t pass inspection today. I had
a guy
, and even with help he couldn’t pass me through. Emissions can be handled, but the obvious and somewhat extreme rust in the floor and door sills was too much. To fix it would be more than the price of a new Twingo, so sadly I can’t afford to fix it. I have 2 weeks to find a cure.
I have 2 options: another guy - I’ll find out tomorrow if a different service place can look away when inspecting the floor, or option 2, which is a long road of selling it for a good price, then selling it for very very cheap, and then... T he next stage is scrapping it for whatever it’s metal is worth (the whole car is less than 900kgs, or 2000 ibs).
I’m pretty sad about it, as it’s my first car, and I was planning to keep it at least a year or two longer. But never mind me as an owner , I’m sad to scrap it and let it die :(
Give a
Merci Twingo
as an offering to the French Gods of Rust, to keep them from taking the Twingo. Hopefuly I’ll keep my kinja nickname for a year longer.

Borsque can hook you up with some properly fixed floor pans and door sills.

I had no idea your Twingo had that much rust?

Yeah, neither did I. I kne
w there’s rust, but not so much that it’ll fail. It had rust the last time, as well, and it passed inspection. I guess it spread more? I dunno. We’ll see what happens.

Not sure if I want to repeat that... I’m pretty sure that w

No, that special edition with the crazy seat fabric looked to be in so good of condition.
Rusted out floors is rather an advanced case you only see after many many years somewhere that uses immense amounts of salt on the roads. How is this possible in your case?

Screw what everyone says, RWD is the most fun, especially with snow. Treat yourself!

Lol, s end over a Twingo headlight or grille to the states and I can make it into some wall art for my man cave. In all seriousness though, a Twingo dying makes me sad

Spray foam and shave it, then bondo and paint it or do undercoating? If they can make castles out of foam on movie sets, how hard can it be to fake a floor and sill.......

PS, I did that trick 45 years ago in college.....

Thanks for the tip. Last year I had a mechanic just coat it with bitumen and it passed - but there was less rust to cover
, I think. I will ask around and see how big of
an investment it would be to go that route, and figure out if it’s worth it financially. I’ll post about it, wish me luck.

This is a slick deal. What you do is sand the surface so you knock off the stuff the gets in the way, Then you use a urathane foam like this and inject it. Note a little goes a long way, get the feel for how much it expands before you have a mess. Speaking of mess, it’s super sticky, plastic gloves are a must and I would plan on throwaway clothes. Cover your garage floor or you will look at the spots forever.
So, you inject the panels and let it ooze out and harden. Once har d shave with a knife and use a flat sander to contour. Then use bondo and then spray paint (or spray undercoating instead ) over the metal and foam and I bet it comes out pretty good.
In fact I did it to my ‘66 Mustang in college and it was the last fender repair I did. What is neat is it seals the metal from the back. In fact the fender held water after that!
As for the floor, you will need to put metal in for support. One thing you might try is using loctite S30 urathane. It is also super sticky and won’t clean off clothes so beware. But if say you want to make a metal patch, of the floor top or problem this would be a good way to hold the patch to the floor. It won’t come off and with some undercoating will be relatively not noticeable.

Very good, thank you for the walkthrough. Soon I’ll go to the hardware shop and ask around for something like this - most likely we don’t have the exact same products here in east europe, but there must be an equivalent.
I hope that will be enough, if there are bigger holes I’ll have to put metal in.
